Captain America Shield

Project Type

3D Printing, Prop replication

Date

October 2022

Utilizing 3D printing, I created a replica Captain America Shield from Marvel. I initially researched the scale of the shield, and adjusted it to be proportional to a non super-soldier (fun fact the real one is roughly 2.5 feet in diameter, mine is 2). The whole file needed to be printed in nine total segments. These pieces were "welded" together to create a solid piece much bigger than could be printed in one piece. The put together raw print was then sanded, and primed repeatedly to then be painted using an airbrush for the final shiny, metallic look. Additionally, to create the back-straps, I took a brown backpack and retrofitted the cutoff straps to turn the shield into essentially a backpack. The straps are attached with snaps so the shield can be converted to a handheld only version.
