Robin Costume

Project type

Sewing, Foam Working, Replication

I created a costume of Robin from DC comics. For this project I created the armor with EVA foam using a template. The foam was cut and glued together, then it was sealed painted and weathered for a battle damaged look. The mask is created with EVA foam using a generic hero mask template, it is then sealed and painted (it is secured on with skin safe mask tape). I created the belt using a belt from the thrift store and rectangular panels made from EVA foam. The buckle was created by free-handing a bird like shape out of EVA foam. The belt also features two clips, made of retrofitted pluming parts, to hold prop batons. The belt was sealed and painted the same way as the armor and mask The cape was created by combining two patterns; a cape and a hood. The result was a dual toned, custom hooded cape that fit the character. The batons were created by gluing together PVC pipes, connectors and end caps. They were then painted and "battle damaged". The batons also have the ability to be connected into a staff, which is true to the character.
