For this project I knew that I wanted to design a working hammer that could only be lifted by those who are "worthy". I researched designs but ultimately couldn't find someone who did exactly what I wanted tot accomplish. I designed my version of this project to have an electromagnet imbedded in a rock structure and a corresponding slab of metal on the top of the hammer. The "rock" was created using an internal wood structure secured to a plywood board that was then covered with corkboard. These internals were then encased in spray foam and painted in order to create the rocky texture. The electro magnet was a remote cabinet lock off amazon. The hammer was a retrofitted halloween prop that I filled to create a weight to it. The system that the electro magnet plugged into was a potable generator run off of a battery.

This was created for a halloween event at school. There were many stations set up around the school where kids could receive candy for small carnival type games. I wanted to be at the Marvel table and decided to create a "working" Mjolner/Thor's hammer. I used the remote to have kids see others unable to lift the hammer then walk up and lift it without problem. This project was created for kids who wouldn't see an electromagnet, but the wonder of a magical hammer only they could lift.
